AgriHack competition 2019 winners

Pitch AgriHack has announced Seven African startups as combined winners of the Pitch AgriHack competition. The seven startups shared the sum of $66,000 prize designated for the competition. 

Pitch AgriHack is an annual competition organized by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA). The competition aims to aid young Agripreneurs boost innovation and build feasible businesses that will pave the way for a sustainable agricultural sector.

A total of 326 applicants applied for the competition. The submitted applications cut across software that tracks the production of milk from farm-to-market, a mobile-based web application that improves productivity, to low-cost handheld devices that detects animal diseases.

Only 22 finalists were selected out of the 326 submitted applications. The selected startups went through a Bootcamp training process. This training got them ready ahead of the competition, where they pitched their innovations to a judging panel and potential investors at the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) held in Accra, Ghana.

The seven winners were categorized in the following ways;

Early-stage startup: 

Profish (Ghana) and Savanna Circuit Tech (Kenya)

While Profish won the sum of $8000, Savanna Circuit Tech won the sum of $5,500. 

Mature Startup: 

Jaguza (Uganda) and Arinifu (Kenya). 

While Jaguza won $16,500, Arinifu won $13,800.

Public Choice Award: 

Trackball Global Technologies (Nigeria) won the sum of $5,500.

Data Analytics Award: Foodlocker (Nigeria) won the sum of $11,000.

GreenTec Award: TechShelta (Ghana) won the sum of $5,500.
