Next stop for this year’s Seedstars World is based in Kampala. Some of the new countries this world touring competition has included are Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritius, Sudan, and Zambia.
The competition this year sees the tour selecting over 25 cities across Africa to promote the progress of the economy lifting startups there. The top winner of each competition will be invited to the finals which will be held next year in Switzerland sometime in April.
Finalists from all over the world will compete for an equity investment totaling $500,000 USD. The Ugandan leg of the competition will take place on August 4th this year at Outbox.
Only 10 startups will be selected to compete for the Kampala event. To make the Kampala branch of the competition work, Seedstars World partnered up with Stanbic Bank and the local tech hub and host of the event, Outbox.
Richard Zulu, co-founder of Outbox Hub, states that they, together with Seedstars “have been able to demonstrate to the local ecosystem the simplicity of solutions and businesses is key to driving entrepreneurship growth
The only startups that are eligible to apply to compete in the startup must be less than two years of age, have only a funding amount of $500,000 or less, and have made a minimally usable product.
Claudia Makadistro, the regional manager for Africa at Seedstars World, expresses proudly that Uganda never fails to bring successful and innovative startups to the table along with their entrepreneurs being driven and first-rate.
Applications end on July 27th.
