Hey Guys,
Are you also attending Social Media Week (SMW 2020) in Lagos? So many people from across Africa are currently in Africa’s New York to grace the 8th edition of SMW. I even met a man from South Africa and another from India today.
Before I give you the highlights of what went down today, here is a background for those who missed Day 1.
Back to the main gists for today: SMW Day 2 – Tuesday, February 25th, 2020
Today we arrived at Landmark Event Centre a few minutes to 12 pm. As usual, we all had to go our separate ways to attend sessions based on the topics in our schedule. Although I arrived late to the class that explained the use of AR/VR to improve the customer’s experience, I was able to attend other sessions on time.
Below are brief reports of the other sessions I attended in succession:
12:30 – Wealth Creation in this Digital Age
Speakers: Odunayo Eweniyi (Cofounder Piggyvest),
Ayo-Bankole Akintujoye (Founder Lagos SME Bootcamp), Layo Ogunbanwo (VP Product Strategy, Piggyvest), Kola Aina
(Founding Partner, Ventures Platform) and Adesola Adesakin
(Founder, Smart Stewards)
My Key Takeaways:
- The best way to participate in the digital age is to be aware, learn basic skills, leverage critical thinking and be ready to evolve with the trends.
- Learn how to best use your skills to meet the demands of the digital economy.
- Understand digital platforms and use them to amplify your voice.
1:45 – MARKETING ANALYTICS: ANALYSING & ADAPTING YOUR MARKETING EFFORT TO THE EVER-CHANGING NEEDS OF YOUR CUSTOMERS
Speakers -Samuel Oduoye • Omolola Ogundele • Oluwamayowa Oshidero
Samuel Oduoye (Business and Operations Lead, TinklingD), Omolola Ogundele (Paid Ads Manager, TinklingD), Oluwamayowa Oshidero (Founder, Equilibrium Zone)
My Key Takeaways:
- Be strategic: have a big picture and end goal
- Be analytical: segment as much as possible
- Measure periodically and have a good reporting document
- Always justify the data that you have
#Confession: The class actually began at 12:30, but because the previous session took more time, I arrived at the Masterclass Suite about 15 minutes into Samuel’s lecture. When it seemed like this masterclass was going to eat into my next class, I took my leave.
Do you want to hear more about my experience? Then wait and read my Chronicles of Day 3. I also promise to provide an article detailing how to adapt marketing analytics to meet the needs of your customers.
2:30: Money Moves: Investment Opportunities for Millennials
Speakers – Ink Eze (Founder, AsoEbiBella), Chiwete John-Njokanma
(Co-Founder, FINT), Tomie Balogun (Founder, the Vestract Company), and Zephia Ovia (Head Business Development, Akiba).
My Key Takeaways:
- Ask questions and do proper market research before you start a business
- You have to know why you want to invest to determine the type of investment to make.
Here is the event schedule for those intending to attend Day 3 of SWM 2020. Catch us tomorrow at SMW 2020 Day 3!
