Hi Guys,

Welcome to another edition of the Big 5 Daily, where we promote innovative ideas made in Africa.

But before we dive in, let me light you up with the new ‘Face App’ trend. People on social media all over the world are using the new app to transform their looks. Our team has put out an extensive listicle to inform you of some facts about this new trend. Do check out our blog and social media platforms (@techgistafrica) to share your thoughts.

Now for the business of the day, have fun!

A recent study by GSMA has valued Sub-Saharan Africa’s mobile economy for 2018 at $150 Billion, with estimation to generate $185 Billion by 2023. The report also revealed that the region will remain the fastest-growing region with a CAGR of 4.6%. The full report is on the blog, check it out!

American ride-hailing platform, Uber has partnered with the Cargo e-commerce platform to launch a new shopping app. The app will be available for riders to shop and receive a 10% discount whilst in transit. To fully access this, riders will have to be in cars that have Cargo consoles. Nice incentive, don’t you think so?

Next, on our list, Cryptyd—an Egyptian mobile game development platform has secured an undisclosed Pre-Series A funding. They secured the funding from Cairo Angels and Alexandria Angels to further develop their product, market and expand.

Safaricom, one of the biggest telcos in East African has announced plans to expand its e-commerce platform across Sub-Saharan Africa by 2020. The telco plans to make its services available to small businesses wherever they are, both in Kenya and across the globe.

Finally, Uber Kenya has partnered Angaza — a top software provider in Kenya, to deploy renewable solar energy solution to their drivers in Nairobi region. The deal will grant Uber Kenya drivers access to solar home systems on credit, making it easier for them to pay in installments.

Thank you for being a part of today’s edition!
