Big news! 54gene, a biotech company based in Nigeria has unveiled a mobile laboratory in Ogun State. The company is leveraging the lab to scale the country’s COVID-19 testing capacity.  

Next, TikTok and the Gates Foundation donated $10 million respectively to vaccine alliance Gavi, a public-private partnership backed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The fund will be used to deploy and distribute new vaccines against COVID-19 in Africa.

Guess what? The Lagos State Judiciary is going digital. They will leverage Skype and Zoom to offer court hearings from the 4th of May 2020. Channels such as WhatsApp and offline messages will be used to lodge complaints, file cases, etc.  

 

Also, Safaricom has launched Lipa Mdogo Mdogo, a smartphone financing product. The telco is also partnering Google to allow its customers access to 4G devices at KSH20 daily.  

Finally, Alphabet, googles parent company, has released its first-quarter 2020 report. According to the report, the company recorded $41 billion in revenue in Q1 2020.
