Drum roll! Seven startups have been selected by Ventures Platform to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Wellvis Health, Infodemics, iQube, Prunedge, WellaHealth, Innover Technologies, and cMapit Technologies were selected for the COVID-19 Innovation Challenge. The startups will receive $2000 equity-free grant funding, mentorship, placement, and innovative support.

Next, Founders Factory Africa has selected four African startups for its Venture Scale Programme. The selected startups will each receive £30,000 cash investment, access to an exclusive partnership, distribution channels, customer acquisition, pilots, data, IP and expertise.

Did you hear? South Africa is facing slow internet speed. This is due to a breakage in the West African Cable System (WACS) which connects South Africa to the UK.

Also, Novcart, a startup based in Kenya has launched an e-commerce software for SMEs to sell online at affordable rates. The startup aims to leverage the software to scale value for SMEs and deepen its horizons.

Finally, Naspers announced its R1.5 billion funding contribution to tackle COVID-19 Outbreak in South Africa. The largest technology and media group in the country will also purchase R1 billion worth of personal protective equipment and other medical supplies in partnership with Tencent and the Chinese government.
