Big news! Scientists monitoring the locust outbreak in Kenya are planning to leverage a tracking program towards preventing a second attack. This is important, considering that the UN warns a rift in food security in the region should a second attack happen.
Next on the Big 5, Omnisient, a South Africa-based startup that allows secure data sharing for businesses has raised an undisclosed pre-Series A investment. The startup will leverage the funding to grow its team and expand to Nigeria.

Guess what? Thirteen African fintech startups have been selected for the 2020 edition of the CATAPULT: Inclusion Africa. The 2020 edition seeks to create financial inclusion across firms in Africa and Europe by building a bridge that will connect the regions. The program aims to offer mentoring, coaching, peer to peer learning and workshops for the selected startups.
Also, the Drone Startup-up Accelerator Program has selected thirteen South African Startups to participate in its program. The selected startups stand to gain funding, training, and mentorship in data analytics and artificial intelligence.
Finally, Twitter is tilting towards story updates. Yes, you heard right, the microblogging platform announced today that it will be rolling out trials for a story sharing format dubbed “fleets”. The stories won’t receive likes, replies and retweets.
