Hello Africa, we kick-off today’s big 5 with news on the TechCrunch Start-up Battlefield 2018.

In its commitment to continue growing Africa’s technology ecosystem, Facebook has joined forces withTechCrunch to host Startup Battlefield Africa 2018.
The event is scheduled to hold in Lagos from December 6th till 11th. During the event, 15 start-ups across Sub-Saharan Africa will will pitch to a live audience of more than 500 people, ranging from VCs, investors, government officials as well as developers.
Huawei has launched an ICT training centre at the Customer Service Innovation Centre (CSIC), Huawei’s headquarters in Ghana. The ICT Talent Ecosystem Program is aimed at training Ghanaian ICT entrepreneurs as well as giving the industry an opportunity to improve the country’s ICT skills to meet global demand. The event kicked off yesterday, December 3rd, and will run through December 19, 2018.
Still on Huawei, the company is also working on developing its own Operating System. The OS is to replace Android for its mobile devices. According to ETNews, the company is doing this to respond to the difficulties the company is facing in the US market.
Hewlett-Packard (HP) through its HP LIFE Program has announced a new commitment to reach 100,000 learners across Africa in the next three years.
The technology company started the commitment with the opening of a technology-enabled hub called HP LIFE Centre in South Africa.
Samsung, together with Verizon, is launching first 5G smartphones in the first half of 2019. The two companies will showcase a prototype of the smartphone later this week, at the annual Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit in Maui.
