Unicorn Group, a Pan-African investment firm has plans to invest $300 million in startups with solutions that solve African challenges. Early-stage startups that have technology-enabled solutions are eligible to receive the funds. This was announced at the TechMoney Innovation Summit which just recently took place.
Workz Group has launched business operations in Dakar, Senegal. The UAE-based mobile solution provider deals in SIM, eSIM, Z-OT, scratch card printing, etc. the expansion to Dakar comes after its move to Johannesburg in June 2019. Workz Group is currently present in 60 countries and renders service to over 25 African network operators.
Econet subscribers are having troubles streaming video services on Kwese Play via Roku in South Africa. This was noticed on the 3rd of July 2019 when subscribers received error messages whenever they tried to access the service. There have been several statements from both Econet and Roku regarding this situation but the issue is yet to be resolved.
Careem has shut down operations in Sudan. This was announced on Careem’s Facebook page and a spokeswoman has backed it with a statement. The decision to leave Sudan comes 3 months after Uber acquired Careem for $3.1 billion. The Sudan exit comes in the midst of the recent internet shutdown imposed by the military rulers to silence protesters.
The GreenHouse lab has called for Nigerian female tech startups to participate in an accelerator. The selected startups would be given a minimum of$100 000 from GreenHouse Capital, which excludes investments from other investors.
