The Public Affairs Officer of the Consulate,  Russell Brooks revealed plans to train 144 students on drone technology at the Nigerian Youth Drone Academy workshop held in Lagos State. The workshop exposed students to the fundamentals of drone technology and emphasized the many problems it can solve for Africa.

The training was organized in collaboration with the US-based Global Air Drone Academy. Brooks spoke about how drone technology and artificial intelligence is being currently used in different industries.

Students were taught the movement patterns, components, installation and safety measures of drone technology at the workshop. Selected students from 12 private and public schools in Lagos and Abeokuta States will be trained in the course of the project. The selected students will learn how to assemble and fly drones.

A quality Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education is important for students. Learning STEM would help students develop their cognitive problem-solving skills. The US Consulate General has funded several projects to increase STEM education in Nigeria such as RoboRAVE, a robotics education program held in 2017 and 2018. They plan to sponsor seminars and workshops organized by STEM advocates to train students across Nigeria.
