Vivo, OPPO and Xiaomi have developed a global wireless file transfer technology. By February 2020, the solution will enable their devices to make speedy and seamless peer-to-peer file transfers.

Vivo, OPPO, and Xiaomi entered into an alliance called ‘Inter-Transfer Alliance Group’ in August 2019. The Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance is a fast wireless file transfer system. The P2P technology will be available on all Xiaomi phones running Android Pie, all phones running Android 10-based ColorOS 7 for Oppo and Vivo latest smartphones in the coming months.

According to a press release, the wireless transfer technology was introduced due to the expected increase of file sizes with the rollout of 5G technology. The solution will allow users to share files wirelessly without the need for internet connectivity. It will utilize both Bluetooth and WiFi peer to peer for sharing large files. The wireless system will transfer files for an average speed of 20 megabytes per second.

The technology does not interrupt other mobile functionalities while the pairing is ongoing. To use the wireless transfer technology, users have to turn on their WiFi and Bluetooth to share files.
Once the receiver turns on the transfer feature, a notification icon will pop-up for confirmation before transfer. The file transfer feature is called Mi Share on Xiaomi phones and available under Oppo Share in the quick setting menu on Oppo phones.
