Remember when we announced that Facebook will be rebranding its subsidiaries; WhatsApp and Instagram? Well, the social media giant has added the tag ‘WhatsApp from Facebook’ to the beta update of its messaging app WhatsApp.
Also, Facebook has started adding its name to some specific screens on Instagram. This move aligns with the company’s aim to personalize its brands and unify its platform. Facebook believes this move will promote transparency over data privacy practices and how or who it shares user information with.
A Spokesperson from Facebook clarifies that the need to imprint Facebook on its sub-brand like Instagram and WhatsApp is to give a clear identity to the products and services offered by Facebook.

According to a report from MS Poweruser ‘WhatsApp from Facebook’ is visible under the settings icon and gives a clear indication of Facebook identity.
The company also launched ‘Fingerprint lock’ for WhatsApp Android beta users. The fingerprint is to enable WhatsApp users to open the messaging app with their fingerprint. Although the feature allows users to unlock the app, they could still answer calls even when WhatsApp is locked.
To access this, users need to update their app to the 2.19.221 Android beta. Then activate it via the WhatsApp “Settings”. Interested users should then select “Account” and proceed to the “Privacy” section where they can spot the “Fingerprint Lock”.
