Workz, a mobile IoT solutions provider has partnered with Econet Group to provide embedded SIMs (eSIMs) to Econet mobile subscribers in Zimbabwe. The eSIMs will be available for customers using devices such as the latest iPhone 10S, 10R and iPhone 11 series.

This announcement follows a successful beta phase using Works technology. The eSIMs will be available in the coming months. Workz and Econet plan to make Zimbabwe the second Africa country to adopt the embedded SIM technology after South Africa.

Since 2018, Workz has been introducing its eSIM technology across countries in North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The company is the first GSMA-approved eSIM provider in the Middle East and Africa.

Speaking on the partnership, Tor Malmros the Managing Director of Workz Group says, “We are proud to work with our long-term partners Econet, on another highly innovative project. We expect the eSIM technology to make a positive impact on people’s lives and we hope Econet Zimbabwe subscribers can start enjoying this enhanced experience very soon”.

Econet is offering its subscribers the ability to connect to the network without a physical SIM. The eSIM will be available for startups who use gadgets that require it for IoT. It is estimated that the eSIM market will grow from nearly $300 million in 2018 to over $1 billion in 2023. Mobile operators like Apple and Samsung are already preparing for the future with manufacturing mobile devices that require eSIMs
