A newly installed privacy feature called App Tracking Transparency, from Apple, enables users to block advertisers from tracking them across different applications without their permission.
This development has led Apple technology to enforce compliance from app developers to the new feature.
The threat was shared on Tuesday, 8th December 2020 after delaying for one year to ensure compliance and allow developers to make necessary changes to the privacy settings on their applications.
According to Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple, at the European Data Protection and Privacy Conference, “Early next year, we’ll begin requiring all apps that want to do that to obtain their users’ explicit permission, and developers who fail to meet that standard can have their apps taken down from the App Store.”
