Elon Musk activates Starlink in Ukraine in response to the internet being disrupted by the Russian invasion

Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, announced that the Starlink satellite broadband service is now active in Ukraine and that the company is sending more terminals to the country, whose internet was disrupted by Russia’s invasion.

The Russian invasion has disrupted Internet connectivity in Ukraine, notably in the country’s southern and eastern regions, where combat has been the most intense.

Musk was responding to a tweet from a Ukrainian government official, who asked Musk to deploy Starlink stations to the troubled country.

When hurricanes or other natural catastrophes impede communication, Starlink might be a lifeline.

SpaceX’s Starlink service provides high-speed internet connectivity via a huge constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit, with an emphasis on distant areas and underserved regions.

It is designed to eventually provide coverage wherever on Earth, with a focus on remote areas and underserved regions.

Users of the Starlink internet service connect to the service using a satellite dish installed on or near the spot where service is required.

While satellite technology is highly expensive to deploy, it can give internet to those who live in remote or hard-to-reach areas where fiber optic cables and cell towers are unavailable.
