Facebook has announced that it has met its goal of running its global operations fully on renewable energy.

The organization is now concentrating its efforts on achieving net-zero emissions across its entire “value chain” by 2030, which includes vendors as well as business activities such as travel and employee commute.

The organization has lowered its greenhouse gas emissions by 94 percent in the last three years, exceeding its target of 75 percent reduction.

It developed these objectives in 2018 and is now one of the largest corporate purchasers of renewable energy.

The 63 renewable energy projects are brand new and are connected to the same electrical grids as the data centers they serve.

Facebook has substantially reduced its greenhouse gas emissions in recent years. According to the company’s sustainability report, carbon emissions from its activities have decreased by 94 percent since 2017, exceeding its targets of reducing emissions by three-quarters.

Emissions were reduced largely by concentrating on the large data centers that control the servers that operate Facebook’s services, as well as the company’s offices.

Facebook has been one of the world’s biggest buyers of renewable energy in recent years. According to the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance, Facebook was the largest corporate buyer of clean energy in 2018 and 2019.

Facebook has set a new target for itself: by 2030, it wants to be net-zero in its entire supply chain. To offset emissions produced by its suppliers, consumers, and workers, it will have to increase investments in environmentally friendly projects. Facebook also says it will try to curb pollution directly, which is a more daunting task.
