Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, opened the company’s first physical location in Mumbai, India’s financial hub.
Apple products had previously been accessible in India through several channels, including online and a large network of resellers.
Visitors traveled from all around India to attend the inauguration ceremony in Mumbai, where they were treated to performances of traditional music and dance.
Cook also met and greeted customers who came into the shop and even posed for photographs with a few of them.
Apple has made numerous attempts to establish physical stores in India. Its original timeline of 2021 was thrown off by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The black-and-yellow taxis of Mumbai served as inspiration for the store’s design, which is located in a posh part of the city.
The opening of the new outlets coincides with Apple’s efforts to increase its retail presence in India.
The Apple CEO hasn’t been to India in seven years; the last time he went, the company had just started to expand operations there.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the deputy minister of information technology, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are set to meet with Cook during his visit.
The iPhone is also seeing increased production in India as Apple diversifies its supply chains away from China.
Currently, India is responsible for 5% of worldwide iPhone manufacturing.
