Beginner and intermediate developers in Africa will be eligible for the latest scholarships in Android, Web, and Google Cloud development.

A total of 40,000 scholarships will be available to developers across Mobile and Cloud development paths, with the top 1,000 students receiving a full scholarship to certify in Android or Cloud development at the completion of the training.

The scholarships, which were created in collaboration with tech talent companies Pluralsight and Andela, will be available to developers in the mobile and cloud development tracks.

In Lagos, Nigeria, the first Google Developers Space in Africa (a platform for African developers, entrepreneurs, and startups) will open in 2020. This came after Sundar Pichai’s promise to African entrepreneurs in July 2017. Entrepreneurs, developers, venture capitalists, and investors will be able to communicate and collaborate in this space.

We’re looking forward to continuing our work with African startup and developer communities because we believe the continent’s startup ecosystem is a key driver of economic development. According to Nitin Gajria, Managing Director, Google Africa, “the growth of all players in the tech space is collective; the success of one paves the way for others. We provide training that is consistent with real-world job competency criteria through Google Developer Groups (GDG) and Women Techmakers. There are 173 active GDGs, which bring together developers with common interests for talks and hands-on workshops.”
