The Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) and the Israeli Embassy in Kenya have teamed up to hold an innovation competition to meet the future smart city’s technology-driven needs.
The competition, dubbed the “Konza Innovation Challenge,” will concentrate on inventions in response to the development of Konza Technopolis, which will use technology to fuel the city’s smart goals.
According to Eng. John Tanui, Chief Executive Officer of KoTDA, the challenge will provide an opportunity for Kenyan and Israeli innovators to meet Konza Technopolis’ immediate and long-term needs, with an emphasis on smart access control, intelligent asset management, and smart parking management.

Eng. Tanui goes on to say that the challenge will allow for cross-pollination of ideas among innovators and a deepening of collaborations between the two countries.
H.E Oded Joseph, Israel Ambassador to Kenya, said his country is keen on establishing cooperation on innovation and that Kenya is an excellent partner during a networking session with innovators from hubs around the country at Konza Technopolis.

“We will find the beating heart of creativity here, as well as a flourishing innovation system. Many hubs are sprouting up here. The fact that there are growing hubs here is crucial, and this is an area where Israeli hubs can collaborate.
H.E. Oded Joseph shared his desire to see the youth create ideas that can be implemented in Konza, and to do so in cooperation with Israeli youth. The Ambassador noted in his remarks that Israel’s problems, such as stability, food security, and water, have been major drivers in developing solutions for the region.
The winning teams will test their ideas at Konza, and if they are good, they will be implemented.
