The danger to trust, cohesion, and security is misinformation and propaganda. We need the tools to understand these risks, reveal them and fight them.
The U.S.-Africa Tech Challenge invites technologists from across Africa to submit an application to an audience of government, civil society and private sector stakeholders to present their response to misinformation and propaganda. In order to demo their technology, up to eight organizations will be selected. Up to three organizations will be chosen as winners and receive a total of $250,000 USD in funding.
The event is being held as a virtual event with two sections.
Part I will take place digitally in April 2021, where up to 25 minutes will be given to the chosen organizations to present their solution to a closed audience, accompanied by a panel of judges’ question and answer session. Part II will be held on the edge of East Africa Com, one of the premier digital communications gatherings, on 11-12 May 2021, and will provide participants with an opportunity for virtual networking and relationship building. With AfricaCom, East Africa Com is part of the Connecting Africa collection.
The U.S. – Africa Tech Challenge seeks to encourage the production in Africa of promising and creative technology against misinformation and propaganda. As such, only applications will be considered from companies domiciled and headquartered in Africa.
