Instagram said that under its Explore tab, users would be able to decide how much sensitive content they see.

The Explore tab shows popular photographs, locations, and searches based on the user’s interests, with categories like food, art, and travel to choose from.

The new “Sensitive Content Control” function will allow users to choose whether or not they want to view more or less of some sorts of sensitive content that does not necessarily contradict the business’s guidelines, such as postings that are sexually suggestive or violent, according to the company.

As the competition in the industry heats up, social media platforms are investing billions of dollars to attract content creators while also working to enable safe content on their platforms.

Instagram, like other social media sites, has long struggled with how to manage problematic or abusive content.

Other improvements to the app have been made to allow users to customize their experience, such as the addition of new options allowing people to turn off comments or prevent others from connecting with them.

“We know that everyone has different preferences for what they want to see in Explore,” Instagram wrote in a blog post. “This control will give people more choice over what they see.”
