Ride-hailing firm, Careem for the first time in Africalaunched a bus-booking service in Egypt. This comes after the company invested $500,000 in Egyptian tech start-up Swvl,, which offers bus booking services on its own mobile app.
In a statement by the company, users can use the app to select their pick-up and drop-off location and track the bus along dedicated routes and offer fixed rate fares between 60 percent and 70 percent cheaper than those on the separate car service.

Some months ago, TGA reported that the transportation network company is testing the bus-booking service ahead of a possible roll-out out across all 14 countries it operates in and the service is targeted at low-income earners.
Careem competes in many major Middle East cities with American Uber Technologies.
Also in October, Egypt’s Competition Watchdog warned Uber and Careem for the second time against their intended merger. The authority said they could slam a fine of up to 500 million EGP ($28 million) per infringement on each relevant person involved in the deal.
