SA’s Mobile Car Repair Platform, Fixxr Wins R500k from IBM in Pitching Competition

Fixxr, a mobile car repair platform has won R500, 000 from IBM after pitching at the just concluded four-week bootcamp programme organised by IBM and the Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct.

Fixxr, which was founded by Curtis Young beat six other participants to win the cash prize. As part of their collaboration with IBM, Fixxr will introduce automated booking and ordering processes, integration with part suppliers and IBM Watson to provide intelligent systems to customers.

Six other start-ups that participated at the bootcamp programme were: Excel at Uni ( second), JoBoX App developers (third), Loyal1, iMed Tech, SmartSentials and KL Corp.

The bootcamp included modules on various business and technology topics including design thinking, an IBM cloud overview, Internet of Things (IoT), the basics of UX / UI to move from MVP to a product customer’s want, wire-framing and rapid prototyping and content marketing for a digital start-up.

Young said the start-up intend to use the R500k grant to make the ordering process for parts more seamless and bankroll an AI-driven chatbot that will allow the start-up to communicate online more easily with customers.
