Airtel Africa Partners Ecobank to Offer Mobile Financial Services across Africa, Microsoft Recruits 50 Engineers for its Research and Development Centre in Nairobi and More

Airtel Africa has partnered with Ecobank to offer digital financial services to customers across Africa. Airtel Money subscribers will be issued virtual and physical cards, access to Ecobank’s digital financial services and more. The partnership will enable both companies to provide individual services across the board.

Remember when Microsoft launched its African Development Centers? The good news is that it has recruited 50 engineers for its Kenyan centre. The engineers will be working with startups to develop technology that will drive fintech, agritech, and off-grid energy.

Orange telecommunication company has revealed plans to shut down operations in Niger. There have been disputes with the government about taxations and debts. The government claims that Orange is meant to pay up a 22 billion CFA franc tax, nearly 50% of its turnover in Niger. The gist is still unfolding…

The next gist is about Safaricom, another popular Telco in Africa. The company wants to shut down Alpha, its innovation incubator programme in Kenya. Alpha will be shut down as a result of the lack of support from its management board.

And finally, CM Group has bought off a South African company known as Conversio for over $6.7 million. Conversio was bought by the Nashville e-commerce company and has been rebranded to CM commerce.
