We are back again to update you on what’s going on in the tech space with the Big 5 Daily.
The Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has ordered network providers to suspend access to SMS and bulk voice services ahead of the polls. There have been reported cases of internet blockage in the country.
In Egypt, SOKNA has introduced an end-to-end funeral service platform. It supports the release of burial permit and paperwork, body preparation, cemetery setup, condolences service, obituaries, etc.
Gates Foundation has granted $1.1M to Kenya’s Ilara Health startup. The funds will be used to improve maternal and neonatal health.
Airtel Zambia and Ericsson have launched an e-waste awareness program dubbed “Product Take-Back”. The initiative aims to minimize the impact of e-waste on the environment.
And lastly for the Big 5 Daily, Liquid Telecom has raised R5 billion ($307 million) through a rights issue to fund rapid expansion for its data centres across Africa. It includes an additional $40 million from CDC Group.
