A new partnership has been formed by Microsoft, Schlumberger and Chevron to accelerate the creation of innovative digital and petrotechnical global technologies. The trio will work together to build an application for companies in the energy sector to be able to process, visualize, and interpret multiple data sources.
Nigeria raised the sum of $433 million to sponsor a new digital system under the National Identity Management Commission. The fund would be utilized in the funding to launch a digital system for capturing citizen’s data and to issue out identity numbers for the next 5 years.
Facebook has suspended tens of thousands of third-party apps as part of an ongoing investigation. The suspended apps were linked to 400 developers who refused to respond to Facebook’s request for information pertaining to how they collect user data. Investigations into these third-party apps are ongoing and more suspensions may be announced soon.
Next on the Big 5, the Nigerian Bank of Industry (BOI) has launched a tech hub in the city of Lagos. The tech hub project is part of its Corporate Social Responsibility as a public-focused organization in the country. The hub, dubbed Vatebra Tech Hub, aims to promote skill development and the use of technology to develop innovative solutions for the country. BOI plans to build more tech hubs across the country.
Last but not least, Uber has rolled out new features for premium Uber Black riders. In South Africa. Some of the features to expect include a Quiet Mode, Help with Luggage, Temperature Control, Extended Pickup Period, Professionalism and more.
