We have news that, SA based Crypto-trading platform Revix has secured R11-million from Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) listed firm. They are set to go live next month with the trading platform. The company was launched last year by Louis Buys and Sean Sanders who previously worked at Sabvest, an investment firm. The company has taken 30% equity in Revix and in return, invested R11 million in the form of; dollars, rand and pounds. The various currency denominations will allow the platform exist in the UK and trade in London as well.

Moving on, Rwanda has launched a Coding Academy on the 22nd of February 2019, in Nyabihu District. This launch is in line with the efforts made to address the shortage of high caliber software experts in the Rwandan market. The academy will specialize in Software programming, embedded systems and cyber security. The academy is part of Nyabihu Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Egyptian trucking marketplace startup, Trella has raised more than $600,000 in a pre-seed funding led by Algebra Ventures. Several strategic investors, global venture capital firms (VC) and angel investors also contributed in the fund raising.

Trella was founded in 2018 by Omar Hagrass and Pierre Saad to address the issues of a deeply fragmented trucking market in Egypt. It bids to reduce costs for shippers by improving load utilization and efficiency; offering transparent pricing schedules, and enabling shipment tracking in real-time.

Next on the Big 5, as part of Facebook’s move to link more people with broadband internet, they have partnered with MainOne to roll out over 750km of metro fiber infrastructure in Edo and Ogun States, Nigeria. Thewill service over 1,000,000 people in Benin, Abeokuta, Sagamu and 10 other towns through connecting mobile operators’ base stations, Internet Service providers, Points of presence (POPs), and public locations including schools and hospitals.

Finally on the Big 5, Rain a data-only network has partnered with Huawei to roll out 5G services come September 2019, in South Africa. The hardware manufacturer Huawei, will supply the devices that subscribers will need to enjoy the high speed mobile standard. The announcement was made during the 2019 Mobile World Congress (MWC). Rain intends to cover most of Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town by rolling out 5G network across its network. South Africa is now one of the first countries to launch 5G in Africa.
