Guess what? Gartner, a global research and advisory firm has revealed that the global sales of smartphones will decline by 2.5%, totalling 1.5 billion units in 2019. Global shipments of devices such as PCs, tablets and mobile phones will face a decline of 3.3% year-over-year (YoY), totalling 2.2 billion units in 2019. According to the report, Japan, Western Europe, and North America will record the largest declines. Do share your thoughts below!
Drum roll, a new fintech platform is in the block! Uzoma Dozie, the former Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank in Nigeria plans to launch Sparkle, a mobile platform that focuses on the Nigerian retail sector. The platform will leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning to help retailers achieve their daily objectives and scale their businesses. It will also offer support services like inventory management, invoice statements issuance to foreign exchange services and a POS-via-mobile function. Applaudable!
Next, on the Big 5, Asilimia a fintech platform based in Kenya has unveiled a digital payment platform that will help SMEs access payments. Through its newly unveiled mobile app, the platform will help business owners access payment infrastructure that is tailored to their needs.
Also, Gozem, an on-demand ride-hailing startup that operates in Benin and Togo has revealed plans to launch a digital wallet product and a delivery service in 2020. Gozem is currently executing the first phase of its strategy by building a robust ride-hailing business across two to three markets. They will commence the second phase that includes the launch of digital wallet and delivery services across their present market. What do think?
Finally, BRCK, Nairobi-based internet hardware and service startup have partnered with Swvl, an Egyptian ride-hail platform to roll out Wi-Fi ride-hail bus services in Kenya. The partnership allows BRCK’s to fulfil its objectives to provide connectivity to commuters and Swvl will provide a transportation alternative industry.
