The ‘fast Wi-Fi for everyone’ hotspots will be located in popular areas like government buildings, bus stations, office complexes and hospitals. Google intends to launch over 100 Google Station Wi-Fi sites in South Africa by September 2019. Nice initiative!
Guess who got bigger? DPO Group, a Nairobi-based payment services provider, has acquired ownership of South Africa’s fintech platform, PayFast at an undisclosed amount. DPO Group will leverage the deal to serve over 100,000 merchants across 18 African markets. DPO’s services will also be available to both DPO Group and PayFast merchants on a single platform. In a bid to foster Financial Inclusion, MTN Nigeria has received a license to offer financial services to Nigerians from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
