Happy Weekend Guys!

Welcome to the weekend edition of the Big 5 Daily!

Let’s not keep you waiting!

Enjoy!

Drum roll! MainOne has announced the landing of its submarine cable in Grand Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire. It will be the first commercial cable service to deploy spectrum sharing capabilities which will deepen infrastructure sharing.

We have news that inDriver has expanded across 10 cities in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, and South Africa. inDriver is a ride-hailing startup that allows users to set their desired price. inDriver is operational in 300 cities across 26 countries globally.

Guess what? Technology-oriented centre, Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB) is set to raise $60 million for its Growth Capital Fund. The fund will be used to support tech startups across Africa. The platform aims to raise the funds within the next 12 months.

Also, Zimbabwe’s central bank (RBZ) has reinstated mobile money cash-out payouts in the country. The initial ban stopped mobile payment system providers from using the cash-in and cash-out facilities but was lifted after Econet led an urgent application with the High Court.

Finally, Uber has launched Uber Works to connect job seekers to businesses in need of their services in Chicago. This development is in a bid to curb the rigid processes that surround job hunting. They will leverage a technology-first approach to offer swifter and seamless means of employment.

That’s it for the weekend edition of the Big 5 Daily!

Thanks for joining!

See you next week!
