Happy midweek guys,
Welcome to another edition of the Big 5 Daily, your one-stop-platform for the biggest and juiciest innovative tech platform in Africa.
Let’s get to the business of the day!
Nigeria, through the Federal Government, has raised the loan sum of $100 million from India in a bid to facilitate 70% broadband connectivity in rural areas. They will utilize this loan to deploy solar-equipped telephone booths to rural communities across Nigeria. Is this applaudable? Share your thoughts!
Cellulant has proven that technology is the seamless way to get by these days. They achieved this through their Agritech platform Agrikore—a platform that connects smallholder farmers, produce traders and all agricultural input in Africa. They are leveraging this payment to tap into Africa’s emerging agritech market that is valued at €5.3 billion. Interesting right?
Angola’s telecom company ‘Angola Cable’ has launched a Cloud as a Service’ platform. The platform enables them to meet the demands of businesses within the African continent. Their solution circles on businesses that are looking to boost their business digital capabilities without incurring additional costs on software licensing. The African tech ecosystem is getting more interesting by the day!
Still, on tech companies, Andela—the African company that identifies and develops software developers, is having a change of leadership. Their co-CEO and President, Christiana Saas has stepped down to assume new roles. Christiana will now assume the chairperson of the Andela Advisory Council and the Andela Alumni group role. Congratulations!
Finally, Google has launched a new social media app called Shoelace. The platform will connect people based on events and interests. The app will grant subscribers access to search people of same interest around them. The app can only be accessed by invite. What is your take on this?
