Welcome to a brand new week.

Here is today’s copy of the Big 5 Daily.

Cross River State government in Nigeria has partnered with a Slovakian company, Sirieco, to build a Car manufacturing plant. Under this partnership, the government will offer; free location site, free tax exemption for 3 years; free Wi-Fi, and utility support services for the project.

South Africa’s MTN Group Limited, announced a new set of leadership and the establishment of an advisory board on the 3rd of May 2019. The former Deputy Finance Minister of South Africa, Mcebisi Jonas, will resume office as new chairman on 15th December 2019. Also, the Emir of Kano and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, was appointed as a non-executive director of the board.

Remember we once reported that MainOne collaborated with Facebook to deploy $20 million for the development of terrestrial fiber technology in a Nigerian State. Good news! MainOne has obtained a submarine cable landing license from the Cote d’Ivoire government to set up an infrastructure in Abidjan. The Data Center will strengthen the digital ecosystem and attract more foreign direct investments in the country.

Nigeria has joined the likes of East and South Africa to be the first to introduce an agro electronic seed certification system in West Africa. The government has partnered with Mpedigree to introduce a smart seed labeling and verification system to eliminate the prevalence of low-quality seeds in the country. Nigerian farmers can now ascertain the quality of seeds by just sending an SMS to an authentication code.

Our last big news for the day is also from Nigeria. The Department of Petroleum Resources in Nigeria has partnered with Kpler, a French data firm to fish out oil smugglers in the country. Video technology will help monitor the movement of ships and conduct twenty-four hours of underwater surveillance to reveal culprits.
