Big news! Slack—an American workplace communication platform, listed on the NYSE on the 20th of June 2019 through a direct listing. The company had a good start, considering that their stock rose up to 60% at the start of trade. It moved from $26 per share to $42 per share and finally closed the day at 49% which is $38.50 per share.
Also, the Egyptian based startup Paynas emerged as the winner for Seamless North Africa 2019 Conference. The cloud-based human resource management platform received a cash award for their business model that offers automated payroll via a multi-purpose electronic payment. Congratulations!
Next on the Big 5, ShowMax, an online on-demand video service platform, will be live-streaming the Bafana Bafana Afcon 2019 football match. They will leverage this move to accord Fans the opportunity to stream the tournament anywhere, anytime. This service is currently exclusive to South Africans.
The South African startup funding initiative, ‘Naspers Foundry’ announced its first investment worth $2million in SweepSouth. SweepSouth is an online cleaning service ran by a couple Aisha Pandor and Alen Ribic. They plan to leverage the fund to expand its services in the South African Market.
Finally, MAX.ng, an on-demand motorcycle startup in Nigeria who recently secured $7 million funding from Novastar Ventures, revealed that they plan to invest the funds in several transport technologies. They plan to leverage the funds to roll out water transport, tricycles and electric vehicles into the ride-hailing market.
