Drum roll! Pitch AgriHack has announced Seven African startups as combined winners of the Pitch AgriHack competition. The seven startups shared the sum of $66,000 prize designated for the competition. The winners include; Profish (Ghana) and Savanna Circuit Tech (Kenya), Jaguza (Uganda) and Arinifu (Kenya), Trackball Global Technologies (Nigeria), Foodlocker (Nigeria), GreenTec Award: TechShelta (Ghana). Congratulations to them!
Guess What? Crowdyvest’s PlentyWaka has commenced operation today the 16th of September 2019, in Lagos, Nigeria. PlentyWaka is an on-demand bus sharing startup that leverages technology to offer commuters the opportunity to move around Lagos in style and safety. It commenced operations with 25 buses, 25 drivers and 25 vehicle assistants. The app is available on Google playstore and iOS Store.
Next on the Big 5, The European Commission has launched the Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership initiative in Nairobi, Kenya. The initiative aims to connect innovation, technology-based incubators and accelerators in emerging markets. It will be funded by the EU and will run from January 2019 until May 2021.
Also, StarTimes Media, a Pay Television Company has announced its plan to boost Africa’s agricultural transformation via its digital media platform. It will create access to digital local content targeted at the rural areas in Africa under its 10,000 African Villages project.
Finally, Asikana Network, a Zambian social enterprise and Facebook have partnered to launch eZibo a digital literacy program in Zambia. The trio plan to train youths between ages 13-18 in Zambian schools. The program will train students on the importance of online safety while providing them with guides and practical tips.
