South Africa’s Flow Raises $1.47m, I/O Developer Conference Holding May, Startup World Cup 2019 and More

Hi guys,

We are back again with the Big 5 Daily.

Let’s dive in quickly shall we?

We start with Big News that Flow, a South African startup received $1.47 million in funding from an Investment round. Flow is a platform that rewards tenants for registering, adding property details, paying timely rent and looking after their homes in general. Founded by the trio of Daniel Levy, Gil Sperling and Jonathan Liebman, Flow will be channeling this fund to speed up app development, increase growth and widen user base. It is a pretty interesting idea and we are happy they received this funding.

Still on South Africa, Huge Telecom, a leading provider of communications services in the country recently announced Robert Burger as their Managing Director after Gunter Engling resigned from the position in November. Burger is a top-level financial executive and chartered accountant with over 17 years of experience in Telecoms. We wish him all the best.

In a twitter puzzle earlier this week, Google announced the date and location of its next I/0 Developer Conference. The I/O Developer Conference, which is popular for showcasing Google’s newest products and services will span 7th to 9th of May and will hold at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA. Our fingers are crossed, we really can’t wait to see the new technology they have in store.

According to The Gartner’s quarterly IT spending, the world’s total budget for IT in general will increase by over 3.2% and will hit $3.8 trillion in the nearest future. This is due to an expansion in cloud technology, Internet of Things and Data Centre markets. Although, there seems to be a drop in mobile phone market, funding available for device technology is expected to grow by 1.6%. Generally, this is good news as more money is equal to farther leaps in advancement, right?

And finally, Startup World Cup 2019, a Fenox Venture Capital initiative will hold its Nigerian Regional Final on the 9th of Ferbruary at Civic Hive in Lagos. At this event, 10 startups will be pitching for the opportunity to represent the country at the grand finale event that will hold on May 17 in the US. Amongst the shortlisted finalists to pitch are Natterbase, Edupoint, WellNewMe, Sabi.ai, Spleet, Publiseer, Afara Partners and FarmFunded.

And with that, we end the Big 5 Daily.

Thank you for joining us.
