In order to boost the broadband coverage across Nigeria, the Government has started the deployment of 18,000 kilometres of fibre infrastructure to already existing 38,000km cabling with its National Broadband Penetration Programme.


Mara Corporation has announced the production of its latest product called the Maraphone – according to the company, it is the first made-in-Africa, full-scale smartphone and it will be manufactured in plants across Africa. The Maraphone phone, a first-of-its-kind in the history of Africa, will produce high quality and affordable smartphones to primarily serve the population of Africa and also to export to other continents such as Europe.


Alibaba Group has recorded a blockbuster of $30.7 billion in sales for its Singles’ Day extravaganza, after customers across the world shopped in stores and online on the tenth edition of its November 11 shopping festival.


Cape Town based tech accelerator, Startupbootcamp (SBC) has announced that its AfriTech participants have been able to secure 20 proof-of-concept, pilot and commercial agreements and collectively raise €600,000 in funding to date.


Google accelerator’s head of start-up success and services, Folagbade Olatunji-David recently announced that the 11 start-ups from the second class of Google’s Launchpad Africa accelerator have created 253 jobs and have raised over $12-million before and during the programme.
