Weeks after raising an undisclosed series B round fund, bus-booking app start-up in Egypt, Swvl is in talks to raise $50 million to $100 million with Asian and Chinese investment funds. This will fuel its global expansion, according to the company’s co-founder and CEO, Mostafa Kandil.


At the 84th International Selection Panel (ISP) held in South Africa, Endeavor has picked 8 high-impact entrepreneurs leading from Africa. Ned Tozun (d.light) and Joshua Sandler (Lori) – Kenya, Jay Alabraba and Tayo Oviosu (Paga) – Nigeria, Trent Rossini and Mike Renzon (inQuba) – South Africa and Nadhem Boudoukhane (Carthage) and Karim Beguir (InstaDeep) – Tunisia made the list of Endeavor entrepreneur network.

Endeavor now supports 1,793 entrepreneurs, leading 1,124 companies in 33 markets around the world.


Through its Financial Inclusion Technical Assistance Facility (FITAF), Universal Postal Union (UPU) has launched a digital financial services project to reach 800,000 people and businesses across Africa, Asia and the Pacific in 2019. The initiative focuses on advancing financial inclusion and the digitization of postal financial services.

Posts of Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kiribati, Nauru, Pakistan, Rwanda, Tonga and Viet Nam would be the first to benefit from the programme, according to UPU Director General’s Bishar A. Hussein.


Western Union has partnered TerraPay, the world’s first mobile payments switch – to enable mobile wallet and bank account pay-out. The alliance will see Western Union’s account pay-out network expand to sending remittances directly into customers’ mobile wallets across Europe, Africa and Asia.


After a two-week training program by the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, the African Development Bank and Busan Techno Park— eight pilots have passed drone flight training. The training focuses on handling, maintenance and the security features of flying drones. The eight were the first batch out of 40 candidates selected for the exercise.
