A messaging app that aims to compete with WhatsApp has been launched in South Africa… The App is called Moya Messenger will offer zero-rated data access on South Africa’s four largest mobile networks. It also works even when users have no airtime or data on their smartphones. The app was developed by cloud technology company that eliminates the mobile data cost barrier biNu. Strong enough to compete with Whatsapp? Time will tell.
Ghana’s largest e-commerce platform, Tonaton.com is planning to launch drone deliveries… The e-commerce platform is working on plans to make delivery of packages by drones in Ghana.
According to the Managing Director Tonaton Zubair Riaz, “Drone deliveries is one of the many ways we are trying to improve the user experience by not just cutting down the service cost but reducing the delivery times as well.”
Dubai based transportation network company, Careem is currently testing a bus-booking service ahead of a possible roll-out out across all 14 countries it operates in. The service is targeted at low-income earners and will go live in four cities in Egypt and is expected to be launched in September, according to Arabian business.
MTN Nigeria has signed a seven-year N200 billion loan facilitated by 12 Nigerian banks. This loan will be invested in the expanding and improving MTN’s data network around Nigeria.
The investment indicates a gradual shift in focus from voice services to data services, something more indicative of where the telecommunications market is headed.
Kazang Solar, Azuri Technologies’ official distribution partner in Zambia, has been awarded $1.6 million from the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) under its Renewable Energy and Climate Adaptation Technologies (REACT) window.
The investment will help Kazang Solar deliver affordable Azuri Quad solar home lighting products to more than 7,000 off-grid customers in rural Zambia.
