A private organisation, Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), has started receiving applications for the NES #24 Start-ups Pitching Event.
This is an event aimed at connecting new ventures looking to raise funds with potential investors 8. The selected start-ups will pitch in front of venture capitalists and investors. Each start-up will have 5 minutes to pitch to prospective investors and 10 minutes to answer questions from them.
MIT Inclusive Innovation Challenge has announced its 2018 finalists for Africa. The list is made up of 9 start-ups across three different categories. The categories include; income growth and job creation, skills development and opportunity matching as well as technology access. Here is the breakdown of the start-ups under each category.
Nigeria Fintech start-up, Mines Secures US$13m Series A Round… Nigerian based fintech start-up, Mines, has received a US$13 million ‘Series A’ funding round as part of its plan to expand into other emerging markets.
The start-up plans to use the investment for talent acquisition, continued growth in Africa, and expansion to South America and South-East Asia.
Nigerian Girls Win 2018 Technovation World Challenge… Five Nigerian Junior Secondary School girls have made the continent proud by winning Technovation World Pitch in the United States of America (U.S.A).
The girls developed a mobile application called “FD Detector” to tackle the problems of fake pharmaceutical products in Nigeria by scanning the barcode on drugs, which will determine the genuineness of said drugs.
Akinwumi Adesina, President of African Development Bank (AfDB) has revealed that they are currently working with the World Bank, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to raise $ 1 billion to improve agricultural technologies across Africa with the initiative tagged, Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT).
