There’s some good news from Yaba, the Lagos State government finally launches the Yaba ICT cluster project.
One year after the Lagos tech community converged to discuss the “Open Yaba Manifesto”, Lagos State Government has launched the commencement of a Yaba ICT cluster project called KITE@Yaba. This is to provide an enabling environment that will facilitate and support the development of a technology cluster and ecosystem within the Yaba District of Lagos.
Vox Launches Unique Cloud Backup Solution for South African Business… In order to help local business better protect their information, Vox in partnership with cloud services brokerage First for Cloud and global software company, Veeam have unveiled a breed cloud-based backup solution.
Madagascar, Kenya, South Africa and Others Make Broadband Speeds in Africa… Data compiled by UK’s leading providers broadband, Cable.co has ranked Madagascar as top 25 Broadband Speeds in the World, placing it 22nd in the world and first in Africa. While Kenya ranked 13th as compared to its position in 2017.
FNB Now Allows South Africans Pay for Groceries with Their Wrist Watch… The wireless payments service which works through Fitbit’s range of wearable devices is now compatible with FNB and RMB VISA bank cards. Fitbit Pay is only available on two of the company’s watches, namely the Versa and the Ionic.
In World Tech News, Facebook Is reportedly Testing Its Dating Feature… App researcher, Jane Manchun Wong has discovered that that the social media company has started testing the dating feature among its employees after Facebook revealed that it was working on a dating service for its users during its annual F8 conference in May.
Research data shows that social network penetration in Africa is incredibly impressive and its use span across different sectors – For advertising, socializing and even more recently, news publishing. In this opinion piece, we dissect to see how Social Media is double-edged, both a blessing and a menace.
