Happy weekend guys!
Welcome to the last edition of this week’s Big 5 Daily, where we promote innovative ideas made in Africa.
Are you ready for the Big 5? I know you are!
Have a fun read!
Toyota and Lexus cars in South Africa are about to get doper! This is because Toyota South Africa partnered with Altron and Vodacom Business to launch an in-car Wi-Fi and connectivity features in new Toyota and Lexus vehicles across South Africa by September 2019. Applaudable!
Next, on the Big 5, MPost, a Kenya based mobile app that converts user’s phones to the mobile post offices, raised $100,000 to scale eCommerce in Africa. The fund will be used to help mobile phone users convert their phones into virtual post offices where they can receive mail on the go. Interesting!
Guess what, Arinifu, a Kenya-based startup has created a smart chicken brooder to boost poultry businesses in Kenya. The device will monitor the brooding process for poultry farmers in Kenya. The Smart brooder is built with a custom algorithm that has several sensors to document brooding space and time. Good initiative!
Drum roll! Bolt—an Estonian ride-hailing company, with presence across Africa, Europe, and the US has further deepened its services across Nigerian cities as it expands to Port Harcourt Rivers State. New drivers will receive 85% of the fares that passengers pay while passengers enjoy discounts of up to 20% discount on all rides during the launch.
Finally, Swvl, a Cairo-based bus sharing transportation startup, is set to relocate its headquarters to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. According to Swvl, they already have a team in place in Dubai who will oversee operations in the city. They are looking to fully relocate by November 2019. What do you think?
…that’s it for today’s edition of the Big 5 Daily!
