Hi guys,

We are gearing up for the weekend and Easter, on that note we bring you another edition of the Big 5 Daily.

Have a good read!

We have news that, the World Economic Forum has partnered with South Africa to launch an Affiliate Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Pretoria in a bid to maximize digital technology in Africa. They aim to achieve this by developing an enabling environment for the Internet of Things, Robotics, Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence to successfully thrive. The centers will be a safe space for technology companies, startups, academia and policy-makers to come together to brainstorm the potential in Science and Technology to stimulate sustainable growth. Great initiative!

Moving on, Google has launched an initiative that is aimed at changing the way conventional news is told. This initiative was launched in a bid to boycott plagiarism. Google set aside $300 million to support journalism projects over the next three years and also strengthen it through technological innovations.

Lambada School, based in California has called on students looking to venture into software engineering in Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya and South Africa to apply in partnership with Paystack. The school will offer a 9-month full stack software development training program in JavaScript, Python and C+. Interested applicants can click here apply. You should sign up, the payment offer is juicy!

Next on the Big 5, SA’s Bridgement- a finance facility has built technology that offers finance to SMEs in 2.5 hours. The fintech grants SMEs access to the exact, fixed rate that they will pay before disbursing the loan and reward them with a discount and when they pay back on time. They offer credit facilities between R10 000 to R1-million. The offer is open to registered companies that have been trading for longer than six months.

Finally, SA’s Founders Factory- backed accelerator and incubator, has announced officially announced its first cohorts which includes; Schoolable and EaszyHire (Nigeria Startups), LipsLater (Kenya Startup), Kduigo (Ghana) and Digest Africa (Uganda). The cohorts will partake in a 6-month accelerator program and also receive an investment of £30,000 and up to £100,000 worth of services.

And it’s a wrap for today’s edition of the Big 5 Daily!
