MacKenzie Scott, a billionaire philanthropist, disclosed that she has donated over $3.8 billion to 465 charity organizations.
In a Medium article, Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, stated that the donations were made over the past nine months.
Scott has a unique approach to philanthropy, frequently surprising organizations with multibillion-dollar donations.
There have been four rounds of funding, and so far, she has given away more than $12 billion.
There are a lot of non-profit groups on the list of recipients, but Scott said that she’s especially interested in supporting groups that help “those whose voices have been underrepresented.”
“Over the last nine months, our team’s focus has included some new areas, but our goal has remained the same: to meet the needs of underrepresented people from all kinds of groups,” Scott wrote. “There are no sides to the cause of equity.”
Scott signed the Giving Pledge in 2019, pledging to donate at least half of her wealth to charity.
Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates founded the Giving Pledge in 2010 to inspire the world’s super-rich to share their fortune.
MacKenzie Scott is currently married to Seattle science teacher Dan Jewett. Jewett signed the Giving Pledge alongside Scott last March.
After her divorce from Bezos in 2019, Scott amassed a 4% stake in Amazon, making her one of the world’s wealthiest women.
Jeff Bezos, her ex-husband, is the world’s second-richest person.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Scott’s net worth is estimated to be more than $55 billion.
