Big news! The producers of Africa’s first phone in Rwanda, Mara Phones has partnered with Nedbank. They will leverage the partnership to boost Mara Phones’ smartphone penetration in South Africa.
Next on the Big 5! In a bid to boost its IoT arm, Safaricom the biggest telecommunications in Kenya has partnered with the Kenyan Breweries. This partnership will allow Safaricom IoT to penetrate the Kenyan market with its IoT agenda. The company plans to connect and enhance refrigerators and coolers with its IoT system.
There is also news that Sweedish travel solutions company, Travelstart has rolled out an online bus booking service in South Africa. The service will provide trips within South Africa and its neighboring countries such as Botswana, Zimbabwe, Angola and Namibia with cheap fare rates.
Also, due to a faulty upgrade, Zimbabwe’s biggest fintech platform – ‘Ecocash’ has left many Zimbabweans stranded. The upgrade was meant to last till the 17th of November 2019, but alas it went south.
Finally, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has listed 500,000,000 global shares at the Hong Kong stock exchange. The shares comprise of 12,500,000 public retail offerings and 487,500,000 global subscriptions. The company intends to raise HK$88 billion from the listing.
