The Big 5 Daily: 29th January 2020

The Big 5

Hi there,

Take a look at the midweek edition of Big 5 Daily.

Big news! Google has launched its first Developers Space in Africa. You guessed, right! Google cited this hub in Ikoyi, an urban city in Lagos, Nigeria. The space is free for startups, developers, and other tech enthusiasts from across the continent.

Google also plans to introduce a real-time AI feature for transcribing on its Android app. This feature will allow users to record audio in one language and have it transcribed to another in real-time. Dope right?

Next on the Big 5, Mubawab, a Moroccan prop-tech startup, has raised $7 million in a funding round. The company will use this to enhance its online platform for buying and renting real estate business.

Moving on, YouTube has appointed a new Managing Director for Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Alex Okosi will bring his wealth of experience and track records into play when he resumes in April 2020.

And finally, Ecobank has availed its API to fintechs across 33 African countries. The pilot launch of its Pan-African Banking Sandbox will allow these fintechs to develop innovative financial solutions.

That’s it for today.

Please stop by tomorrow for more juicy gists.
