Big news! 54gene, a medical startup based in Nigeria launched the African Centre for Translational Genomics (ACTG). The centre will pave way for scientists to take on DNA studies and boost their understanding in gene related diseases.
The UK government has called on African startups to apply for its Go Global Africa Program. The two-week program aims to help startups scale their businesses to greater heights. Application closes on the 24th of February 2020. Apply here
Guess what? The recent Finance bill passed by the Nigerian government is affecting calls and data pricing for its citizens. Due to the 7.5% increase citizens are paying for more to access data and calls.
Still on Nigeria, the government has yet again mandated the NCC to regulate sim card ownerships in the country. This mandate is in a bid to combat crimes in the country. In this bid, citizens can no longer own more than three sim cards.
Finally, reports have shown that Instagram hit $20 billion in revenue from ads in 2019. This revenue contributed to over a quarter of Facebook’s income.
