Do you know Microsoft, Schlumberger, and Chevron has entered into a partnership to build a new energy software?

The move toward data-led design and innovation spurred 3 multinational giants Microsoft, Schlumberger, and Chevron partnership in the recently concluded Software Integrated Solution Global Forum held in Monaco. The trio will build an Azure-naïve application into chevron owned DELFI cognitive E&P environment. When invented, The app will help energy companies visualize, interpret and ultimately obtain meaningful insights from multiple data sources. Read full gist here

Nigeria’s Bank of Industry Launch Tech Hub for all

The Nigeria Bank of Industry, BOI has launched a tech hub in Lagos Nigeria. The hub is dubbed Vatebra tech and will provide Africa youths with training in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Internet of Things amidst others. The launch of the hub made BOI the first government-owned parastatal to hold a stake in the growth of the tech sector in Nigeria. Full information here

Did you hear of NITDA, Truecaller probe over the Breach of Users Privacy?

The National Information Technology Agency of Nigeria NITDA has finally taken up its place to probe malicious usage user information acquired during the usage of their APP. Truecaller was the first to come in contact with such a probe as it currently undergoes investigation for collecting user information without their consent and selling of this data to third parties including advertisers. Are you in Nigeria without a National Identity card? You might be getting one soon

The Nigeria government will roll out a new digital identity card having raised over $433 million from WorldBank. With the newly acquired fund, NIMC will issue identity numbers to 50 million Nigerians yearly. The decision to issue a digital identity number also takes a hinge on the need to provide national identity number before been issued passport, allowed to vote, open bank account or even register for entrance exams like JAMB.  Read more

Are you aware that Facebook Suspend Third-Party Apps on its Platform?

Facebook has announced the suspension of thousands of third-party apps on its platform over breach of privacy by this app. 

Some reasons listed for the suspension of the third-party app include noncompliance with Facebook’s regulation and the evasion of social media users’ privacy. 

More foreign aid partnership for the development of tech in Africa as East African UNESCO partners Huawei 

The regional East African United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, has partnered Chinese giant Huawei to scale digital skill acquisition in Kenya. The training will be available for teachers, and rural communities using the Mobile Huawei’s Digitruck. Read full gist here

Have you heard that Mastercard has committed $200m to Impact Sengalese Startups?

Mastercard Foundation, a CSR arm of Master Card, has launched the Africa Work Initiative in Senegal to train over 3 million Senegalese youth and offer them employment come 2030. The initiative will give priority treatment to females and will help startups access finance, support innovations and help accelerate tech in Senegal. 

MainOne expands Data Centre to Accra Ghana

MainOne, a leading telecom service provider in Nigeria is set to expand its data center dubbed MDXi to Accra Ghana. The facility will provide rich connectivity and interconnection for users. It will also give direct access to submarine cable and provide open-access connectivity to all telecom networks. Get full gist here

A new dawn for Zimbabwean as Econet set to roll out Electric van

 Yeah! Its gonna be a new dawn for Africa’s transportation system with the increase innovation pervading the sector. Amidst this innovation is Econet’s Electric Car dubbed Vaya. 

Vaya will be added to Econet’s on-demand car service and will launch first in Zimbabwe and 2 other countries before expanding to other African countries. The car will be charged at a specific charging booth built by DPA and will be able to travel over 300km with a single charge. See details here

And finally, Mastercard partners Rabobank to provide Financial Inclusion for Farmers

Mastercard in its usual stride to create financial inclusion for all; has partnered an International financial service provider dubbed Rabobank, to provide one million farmers across Africa, Europe, and Asia access to financial services.

The partnership will promote economic growth and help create a sustainable partnership for food and agro value chain globally.
