Dutch B2B platform for timber materials Timberhub has raised €5.8 million in seed funding to redefine the offline timber industry.

The round was co-led by HV Capital and Creandum and joined by existing investor Speedinvest and the founders of the logistics startup Sennder.

The startup is betting big on the demand for timber, which is expected to double in the next 10 years fuelled by the environmental benefits of the material used in the construction industry.

Founded in March 2022 by Ion Sergis, Thomas Androutselis, Ioannis Androutselis, and Dimitrios Pagkratis, the Amsterdam-based startup aims to redefine the offline timber industry by actively connecting manufacturers and construction companies with sawmills while managing procurement, payments, and transportation of timber materials through its digital B2B marketplace.

According to the startup, transparency, faster availability, and shorter lead times can accelerate timber usage in construction and contribute to the reduction of embodied carbon in buildings.

Substituting wood for conventional building materials reduces emissions by 69%.

The startup wants to change the historically painful process by offering a seamless experience to generate substantial efficiency, productivity, and profitability gains for all stakeholders along the supply chain.

Ion Sergis, Timberhub CEO and co-founder said: “We are excited about the opportunity to contribute to a greener construction industry. Bringing transparency, higher availability and faster delivery times in the timber supply chain will improve the affordability and the predictability of construction projects.”

Timberhub currently serves customers across 15 countries in Europe ranging from small manufacturers to large construction companies.
