Over the next three years, Airtel Kenya expects to invest more than $150 million (KSh21.5 billion) to increase network coverage.

Through a number of measures, including the addition of 649 additional network sites around Kenya, it hopes to achieve this.

Ashish Malhotra, CEO of the telco, stated that Airtel Kenya is considering opening at least one service shop in each ward to increase brand visibility. He noted that only 250 wards had not yet received coverage, a gap that will be closed over the next three months.

Malhotra continued by saying that, merely from a network standpoint, the telecom needs to make further investments totaling $150 million over the next two to three years. It will also make investments in other areas, like bringing in more affordable routers.

In addition, Airtel Kenya announced plans to deploy 349 additional sites in June 2023 in order to increase network coverage by year’s end and satisfy the growing demand for data services in the country.

Following months of testing, the telco launched its 5G network in July 2023.

The company has made over $1 billion (KSh143.3 billion) in investments in Kenya since it began operations, the majority of which have taken place in the last three years.
