Waspito, an e-health startup based in Cameroon, has raised US$2.5 million, bringing its total seed round funding to US$5.2 million.

The company plans to use the funding to grow into new markets and further establish itself in existing ones.

With the help of Newtown Partners, Saviu Ventures, AAIC Investment, Axian Ventures, and Health54, Waspito was able to raise a US$2.5 million seed extension round from DP World, which would finance the company’s expansion goals.

The previous funding round, which took place in March 2022, raised $2.7 million.

Jean Lobe Lobe founded Waspito in 2020 to facilitate mobile video consultations between patients and medical professionals.

Additionally, it offers mobile laboratory services, where a lab worker visits the user’s home to collect samples, and the results are sent digitally.

With over 100,000 patients served in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, Waspito plans to expand to Senegal and Gabon in the coming months.

The platform also has a health-focused social network where users can anonymously interact with medical doctors who provide preventive care tips and answers to health-related questions.

“My team is focused on the big picture while thoroughly executing our growth strategy. This additional funding will enable us to hit the ground running in the new markets and solidify our leadership in the current ones,” said Lobe. “We are happy to see existing investors renew their confidence in the project by doubling down on their investment, and we are excited to welcome new investors – Health54, AAIC, and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation – bringing their network and experience at our disposal to enable us to improve access to healthcare across Africa.”

With this funding, Waspito will be able to extend its service offering and continue its mission of connecting Africa’s health ecosystem online.

This will help alleviate the shortage of medical practitioners and other issues faced by the continent’s health system.
